Air Fryers with Ceramic Baskets: What You Should Know

Are ceramic-coated baskets the same as 100% pure ceramic baskets?

If you are really detailed-oriented, you probably notice that mini air fryers advertise their baskets to be ceramic coated.

You’re probably wondering, what about those baskets that are 100% pure ceramic? Is it any different from one that is coated?

These two items are actually very different. They are made of different things, and they provide different performances in regard to cooking.

Those that are 100% ceramic are made completely out of clay and natural Metals such as quartz and minerals found on the ground. It is then shaped and then thrown into the fire pit at nearly 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. After it comes out, it enters into a process of glazing in order to make it waterproof.

These ceramic containers are usually very heavy and difficult to hold while cookware with ceramic coating can oftentimes weigh a fraction of that.

Ceramic-coated cookware is actually what you often see in today’s modern non-stick frying pans.

Another advantage to Pure ceramic cookware is that it can go straight into the microwave without any issues. D ceramic coated cookware shouldn’t be put in the microwave due to it having a metal center.

Pure ceramic actually is able to retain and insulate Heat at a far better amount than that ceramic-coated cookware.

You also have to watch out for metal utensils when using them in the bowl that has a beat ceramic coating. You may accidentally carve or peel off this layer which made damage your basket. Just make sure not to use metal utensils for any of these baskets no matter what they’re made of.

Then there is the issue with what temperature that these two can handle. Obviously, for the ceramic basket, it can handle temperatures hope at least 2000 degrees Fahrenheit since that was how it was originally created. However, when it comes to ceramic coated cookware the temperature tolerance is far lower at around a recommended 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

What is considered a good quality ceramic coating?

If you decide to go with ceramic-coated baskets, there are a few things we recommend you keep in mind. A good quality ceramic coating is one where the manufacturer potentially applies more than one layer of ceramic to the air fryer basket. With many more layers oh, it will be far more resistant to scratching and chipping. This in turn results in the longevity of the basket being much longer.

The more modern ceramic coating methods often remain nonstick for many more years than they used to be. Some ceramic coated baskets are made with both an interior aluminum alloy along high-quality stainless steel. The stainless steel gives it the ability to be compatible with induction cooking.

Ultimately, it all boils down to the air fryer basket now being able to withstand temperatures up to even 850 degrees Fahrenheit. With all the layers and all the extra protections that go into modern ceramic-coated cookware, this may even give it dishwasher-safe status.

Typical sizes that ceramic air frying baskets come in

You can find air fryers with ceramic baskets in all types of sizes but what you might notice is some of the pure ceramic baskets that come with air fryers range a little bit smaller in size and capacity than their counterpart stainless steel or ceramic coated baskets.

This may be due to the fact that 100% ceramic is extremely heavy. In fact, they are a lot heavier than any ceramic-coated baskets out there.

To give you a rough idea of how much a pure ceramic Bowl Mei Wei, consider how ceramic tiles weigh about 4 lb per square foot. When you compare that to aluminum of the same size and shape, we’re really looking at a weight of under two pounds.

Safety features of owning an air fryer with a ceramic basket

The benefit of owning pure ceramic cookware is that no matter how high the heat goes, your basket will not give off any toxic fumes unlike those of the traditional ceramic non-stick coating. Some of these Coatings are also made with additional ingredients on top of ceramic which when cooked at a certain temperature can actually emit hazardous fumes.

What Is Ceramic Coated Air Fryer?

When it comes to ceramic-coated baskets, they are usually made with aluminum on the inside. This aluminum is not encoded with a hard polymer material with components of ceramic properties in features. This coating helps thicken the base aluminum as well as create a non-stick lair.

Unfortunately, this non-stick coating is not permanent and can degrade over time even with proper maintenance. Most people would estimate that the length of time a ceramic coated pot would survive is roughly three to five years.

Can you put your own ceramic bowl in an air fryer?

The answer is yes. Ceramic is a highly heat-resistant material that can withstand temperatures up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. There aren’t any air fryers that we’ve heard of they can create temperatures that high. With that being said though, you can definitely place your food inside a ceramic bowl, and place that ceramic Bowl inside an air fryer basket to cook.

You won’t have to worry about any harmful fumes or leeches of materials coming out into the food no matter how hot you cook it. You also get the benefit of your food staying warm for much longer since ceramic is a pretty good insulator of heat.

How do I know if my ceramic bowl is air fryer oven friendly?

Almost all ceramic bowls are oven-friendly. But if you’re worried that your ceramic Bowl may actually be a ceramic coated Bowl then what I recommend is to check it on a scale. Try weighing it to see how heavy it actually is. A bowl that can hold about 1 to 2 quarts but is made of ceramic should feel pretty heavy. If it is pretty heavy, then chances are it is made of 100% ceramic.

But don’t just go throwing it into the air fryer just because it’s heavy. The next thing we recommend you do is look at any manual or brochures that the bowl came with. Look for anything that says ceramic coated which should bring up a red flag that may be your air fryer might not be able to handle being put into an air fryer oven.

Look for anything on the box but may say oven-safe then it is also air fryer safe. If you’ve thrown away the boxes or can’t find any material on your balls then try and look up the manufacturer and give them a call.

What happens if I can’t choose between 2 or more air fryers with ceramic baskets?

In this case, we highly suggest you look at the many functionalities that the two air fryers provide. Compare which ones you would prefer, and which ones you think you would end up using the most.

It’s important to understand what it is in an air fryer that we want. Pick out your top three functions. These should not be the functions that you find most interesting. They should be the type of functions that you know you’ll end up using the majority of the time. Choose three between the two air fryers you’re weighing on.

Once you’ve decided which of the two air fryers fits your needs the most, then you should be more equipped and better prepared to make a more educated decision.
