How to Get Hot Water from A Keurig? (A Solution For ALL Keurigs!)

If you’re anything like me, sometimes you just want hot water instead of coffee.

I’m not saying I don’t love coffee—it’s my lifeblood! But sometimes I just want to grab a cup of hot water for my tea or soup or whatever.

And when that happens, I have to turn on the stove and boil some water.

It takes forever, and then all the dishes are dirty because who wants to clean a pot? Not me!

Fortunately, Keurigs can do it faster! Seriously. They’re like little machines full of magic.

You just pop in your pod and push a button, and in seconds (not minutes!) you’ll have piping-hot H2O ready for whatever concoction you’ve got planned.

How do you get hot water from a Keurig?

If you want hot water from a Keurig, there are not a ton of things that you need to do. A Keurig heats up water and then runs it over a K-cup or over coffee grounds and then puts it in your cup.

If you want to get hot water but you do not want to have coffee, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Clean out your K-cup holder. This is going to help you get water that is just hot and that does not have any coffee flavor in it.
  2. Then, close the K-cup holder and this will give you the option of what you want to do with your coffee maker.
  3. You then need to choose the right cup size and then push the brew. The water will come down through the empty K-cup holder and will just be hot water.

Do all Keurig models make hot water?

All Keurig coffee makers have the ability to make hot water for whatever you want.

With most models, you just have to make sure your K-cup holder is clean and that there is not a pod in it, and then get your machine to the brew option.

Some models have a hot water button like the Keurig Elite. This is the only machine that has a dedicated hot water dispenser and button, but it is pricey.

With all other models, you can use the hot water feature. Just do not put a K-cup in the machine and then use it as if it were and you will get hot water.

Keurigs with a hot water button

As we have already mentioned, the only Keurig model that has a dedicated hot water button is the Keurig Elite.

This is a single-serve machine, and this is about $150.

This machine has a dedicated hot water function that does not require you to do anything special to get hot water, as you do with other models.

Keurigs without a hot water button

Most Keurig machines are not going to have a dedicated hot water button.

That does not mean you cannot use it to make hot water. You just have to follow the steps that we have discussed to get hot water for your needs.

What temperature does a Keurig heat water to?

Have you ever wondered why your Keurig brews the coffee at 192 degrees Fahrenheit? It’s a common question, but it actually makes sense.

The Keurig heats water to 192 degrees Fahrenheit. It is impossible to increase the internal temperature of Keurig beyond 192 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Keurig brewers include a temperature adjustment button that allows the user to change the water temperature between 187 and 192 degrees Fahrenheit.

For this reason, the Keurig will only be able to heat water to 192 degrees Fahrenheit.

It is impossible to increase the internal temperature of the Keurig beyond 192 degrees Fahrenheit.

This is because the coffee makers are designed to brew coffee at the ideal temperature for maximum taste and aroma.

How quickly can a Keurig make hot water?

A Keurig takes about three to five minutes to make hot water.

It does depend on the machine that you are using, how large the cup you are using is, and how hot the water is when it goes in.

You should not have to wait longer than five minutes for hot water if you are using your Keurig to make it.

How to get hot water from a Keurig without a hot water button

If you do have a machine that does not have a hot water button, you can still get hot water.

The easiest way to do that is to make sure your K-cup holder is clean and empty, and then just brew as if there is a K-cup in the machine.

This will send the water from the reservoir on the exterior of the machine and then send it through the machine and through the heating process and then out.

This will then deposit the hot water in your cup and will give you hot water to add to whatever else you might need it for.

Why won’t my Keurig dispense hot water?

If you are dealing with a Keurig that will not dispense hot water, there are some things that you can check for.

  • You may have an issue with your water tank and how it is placed. If the machine does not make any noise and will not start the brewing process, you may need to remove the tank and put it back on to help ensure that it is going to work.
  • You can also check to make sure there is no issue with the machine itself. If your Keurig has not been working properly, or you cannot get it to turn on at all, you may have an issue with your pump, the computer, and so much more.
  • If you are dealing with a machine that will only work when there is a K-cup in the holder, you may have to add an empty reusable K-cup to the machine to make the internal workings of the machine feel that there is a cup in the holder and that it is brewing coffee when it is not.

How do you troubleshoot a Keurig to get hot water?

If you are dealing with a Keurig that is putting out cold water instead of hot water, you likely have an issue with your heating element or with the settings of the machine itself.

If you have a Keurig that has a touch screen or that has a settings menu, you can look and see what the setting says and if it is correct and the water is still cold, it is likely that you have a heating element that has gone bad.

If you feel that you might have a heating element that is bad, the best thing to do is to take the time to contact customer support and see if they can either allow you to mail your machine in or can otherwise help you find the right options for your particular machine.
