Why Is My Keurig Not Pumping Water? (EASY Fix!)

I’m sitting here, staring at my Keurig machine, wondering why it’s not pumping water.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I haven’t used it in months? Maybe it’s broken? Maybe (and this is a long shot) it’s just because I haven’t cleaned it since last Thanksgiving?

The thing is, I really don’t know how to fix this problem. I just want my coffee!

If this is you, you’ll want to continue reading about ways to fix this issue.

Why is my Keurig not pumping water?

A Keurig can be hard to keep running when there is something truly wrong with it.

There are a few reasons that your Keurig might not be working properly or that it might not be pumping water.

From a clogged water tank to a damaged pump, it is important to take the time to look at a few different issues to see what might be wrong.

Clear the water tank exit

Your water tank exit may be clogged. The water tank exit is where the water leaves the water tank and enters the system in the Keurig.

If the water exit is clogged or not working properly, it can keep the water from leaving the tank and entering the heating system.

Clear a possible airlock

You may also be dealing with an airlock. An airlock means that there is too much air in the lines and it is keeping the water from entering the lines to make it into the machine.

To remove the airlock you want to remove the water tank and then turn the machine upside down.

This is going to allow you the opportunity to smack or use the spank method on the bottom of the machine.

In theory, this should dislodge the air and help the machine get back to working properly.

Descale and remove internal water flow blocks

Your machine may also be dealing with scale in the machine and in the water lines.

If you have a machine that is used very often and that you are using tap water with, you can see limescale that builds up very quickly.

You need to remove that scale to help the machine work properly. You can do that by either using a K-Cup cleaner or cleaning pod, or you can use equal parts water and white vinegar and run it through the machine.

This will help to dislodge the limescale and will help to get your machine pumping again.

Unclog the Keurig needle

Another problem you may have is that the needle is clogged.

If your needle is clogged, you can unclog it by using a needle or a small piece of metal to clean the interior of the needle and remove any sugar or coffee that might be stuck in it.

The water magnet isn’t aligned properly

Still another issue you might be having is that the water tank and the magnet are not lined up properly.

With a Keurig, you cannot use it if the water tank and the tank magnet are not properly aligned. These machines are not designed to work unless everything is attached and lined up properly.

You need to remove the tank and put it back on to see if you can line up the tank better.

The filter and water line are clogged

Another problem that might be present is that the water line or the filter line are clogged.

Any sort of clog in the machine is going to make it hard to pump water out, and it is going to make it hard for the Keurig to work and function properly.

You need to unclog the lines in this case, and a great cleaner or vinegar and water are going to be the easiest ways to clean these clogs out.

The pump is damaged

A very serious issue that is going to require that you either send your Keurig off for repair or get a technician to your house is that the pump itself is damaged.

This is a more serious issue and is going to require a professional to either repair or replace the pump so that it works properly.

There’s no power going to the Keurig

Though it might seem silly, you should also check that your Keurig is plugged in and has a source of power.

We all get busy and it is easy for things to become unplugged, also, your socket might be bad and this can lead to the Keurig being plugged in but the outlet is not working.

Keurig says it needs more water when it’s already full

If your Keurig says that it needs more water but it is already full, there may be an issue with the magnet, there may be problems with the sensor, and there may be problems with the water lines.

If that is the issue, you can take the water tank off and try the spank method then try to reconnect the water tank to see if it works again.

How can I fix my Keurig if it is not pumping water?

If you are dealing with a Keurig that is not pumping water you can follow some of these steps to troubleshoot and see if you can pinpoint the issue.

  1. Remove the water tank and try the spanking method to dislodge any airlock or any other clogs.
  2. If that does not work, try descaling and cleaning your machine to help ensure that there is no scale or other debris that is clogging the machine.
  3. Unclog the needle and the water lines.
  4. If that does not work, you may need to contact support to see if you can get a tech to look at the machine and see if you can have it repaired.

What are some tips to prevent this from happening again?

  • Make sure you always have enough water in the reservoir tank
  • Try disabling the auto shut-off peep feature
  • Make sure you clear out any dirty filters or valves in your reservoir tank
  • Descale your Keurig every four to six months
  • Make sure you have enough power running through your Keurig

What should I do if my Keurig is still not pumping water?

If your Keurig is not pumping water, there are a few things you can try before taking it to an experienced engineer.

First, make sure that the water tank is full. You can also run some vinegar through the machine to clean out any mineral buildup that might be blocking the flow of water.

If neither of these things fixes the problem, you might need to make some adjustments inside the coffee maker.

If all the above-mentioned hacks have not proved to be fruitful for you, and the problem is still there, then you can use a screwdriver, and a knife to open up the coffee maker to check if anything is out of place or loose and rattling on the inside.

Unfortunately, doing so will void the warranty of your Keurig coffee maker.

If your Keurig is no longer under warranty, then it might be acceptable to try anyway. Always remember to unplug your Keurig from the outlet and let it discharge on its own for about 5 minutes.

How to detect that your Keurig not pumping water?

Keurig machines are great for making coffee quickly and easily, but it’s important to keep an eye on your machine to make sure it’s working properly.

It’s easy to see if your Keurig’s water pump is the issue by watching for these signs:

If you are not getting a lot of coffee or a half-filled cup, then the Keurig might not be pumping water.

If this happens, check the reservoir level and make sure it is full enough to provide adequate pressure.

If there isn’t enough water in the reservoir, check to see if any of the pipes connecting to the water reservoir are blocked or kinked.

If you are getting an error on the brewer screen, then it is likely that the Keurig needs more water.

Check the reservoir level again and make sure that there is enough water in it for the proper operation of your machine.

If this doesn’t fix the problem, then check all connections between your machine and its pipes for obstructions or kinks.

If coffee drips slowly or takes a long period of time to fill up the cup, then there might be an issue with the
